Where does wax go when it melts?

Hi everyone! Welcome to another blog post from Wax and Scents UK, your favourite online shop for soy wax melts that are hand made in the UK. I'm so happy to have you here and I hope you're enjoying your wax melts as much as I enjoy making them for you.

Today I want to answer a question that many of you have asked me: when wax melts does it disappear? I know it can seem like magic when you put a wax melt in your burner and watch it turn into a liquid, then a vapour, then nothing at all. But don't worry, your wax melt is not gone forever. It's just changing its state of matter.

The chemistry of wax and heat

Let me explain. Wax is a solid substance that is made of long chains of molecules called hydrocarbons. When you heat up wax, you give these molecules more energy and they start to move faster and farther apart from each other. This is called melting and it turns the wax into a liquid. You can see this happening in your burner when the wax melt becomes a pool of oil.
But the heat doesn't stop there. It keeps giving more energy to the molecules and they start to move even faster and farther apart from each other. This is called vaporisation and it turns the liquid into a gas. You can't see this happening in your burner because the gas is invisible, but you can smell it. That's how the fragrance of your wax melt fills your room.
So where does the gas go? Well, it mixes with the air around you and eventually disperses. That's why the scent of your wax melt fades over time. But don't worry, it doesn't mean that your wax melt is wasted or harmful to the environment. In fact, soy wax is biodegradable and renewable, which means it breaks down naturally and comes from a sustainable source.
So there you have it. When wax melts does it disappear? No, it just changes its state of matter from solid to liquid to gas. And that's what makes wax melts so fun and fascinating to use. Of course, the wax won't disappear completely, you'll still need to clean your wax burner!
I hope you learned something new today and I hope you'll try some of our amazing scents at Wax and Scents UK. Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more blog posts from me soon. In the meantime, feel free to check out some of hand made wax melts.
