What is whipped soap made from?

Hi there, and welcome to Wax and Scents UK, your online destination for handmade whipped soap that is vegan friendly and cruelty free. In this blog post, I'm going to answer one of the most frequently asked questions I get from my customers: what is whipped soap made from?

What is whipped soap?

Whipped soap is a type of body wash with a creamy consistency that looks and feels like whipped cream or shaving cream. It's suitable for hands and body, and it can also be used as a shaving cream. Whipped soap is made with a base of glycerin soap that is whipped with air and other ingredients to create a fluffy texture.

What are the ingredients in whipped soap?

The list of ingredients on the back of whipped soap can be confusing and sound technical, however the ingredients in all of our whipped soap are vegan friendly and cruelty free, meaning they are derived from natural sources.

Here are details of the most common ingredients found in our whipped soaps:

Glycerin is a natural substance derived from vegetable oils that has moisturising and cleansing properties. It helps to draw moisture to the skin and keep it hydrated. Glycerin also makes the soap lather well and rinse off easily.
Aqua is simply water that is used to dissolve the glycerin soap base and create a smooth consistency.
Sorbitol is another natural substance derived from fruits and berries that acts as a humectant, meaning it helps to retain moisture in the skin. Sorbitol also adds sweetness and softness to the soap.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a mild surfactant that cleanses the skin without stripping its natural oils. It's derived from coconut oil and has a silky feel. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate also helps to stabilise the whipped soap and prevent it from collapsing.
Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate is another mild surfactant that cleanses the skin gently and creates a rich lather. It's derived from coconut oils and has a low irritation potential.
Sodium Chloride is common salt that is used to thicken the whipped soap and adjust its pH level.
Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi in the whipped soap. It's safe and effective at low concentrations.
Tetrasodium EDTA is a chelating agent that binds to metal ions in water and prevents them from reacting with the soap ingredients. This helps to extend the shelf life of the whipped soap and maintain its quality.
Prunus Ameniaca Kernel Oil is apricot kernel oil, a light and nourishing oil that moisturises and softens the skin. It's rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids that help to improve skin elasticity and prevent dryness.
Kaolin is a natural clay that gently exfoliates and detoxifies the skin. It removes impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and refreshed. Kaolin also adds colour and texture to the whipped soap.
Polysorbate 80 is an emulsifier that helps to blend oil and water together. It's derived from vegetable sources and ensures that the whipped soap doesn't separate or become greasy.
Parfum is fragrance that gives the whipped soap its delightful scent.
Polyurethane-11 is a cosmetic glitter that adds some sparkle and fun to the whipped soap. It's biodegradable and safe for the environment.
CI 45410 is a colourant that gives the whipped soap its beautiful pink hue. It's approved for cosmetic use and doesn't stain the skin or the tub.

The importance of understanding what id in your whipped soap

Vegan whipped soap is a wonderful alternative to conventional soap products that may contain animal-derived ingredients or harsh chemicals. But not all vegan whipped soaps are created equal. Some may still have ingredients that can irritate your skin, cause allergic reactions, or harm the environment. That's why it's important to understand the ingredients in vegan whipped soap and choose the ones that are gentle, natural, and eco-friendly. By doing so, you can enjoy the benefits of vegan whipped soap without compromising your health or the planet.
As you can see, whipped soap is made from natural or naturally-derived ingredients that are gentle on the skin and good for the planet. Whipped soap is also vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, meaning no animal products or testing are involved in its production.
