Sourcing wax melt ingredients in the UK

The environmental importance of supporting UK wax melt businesses

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to share with you my journey of creating a UK based wax melt company that is not only eco-friendly, but also vegan friendly and cruelty free. I'm a passionate about the environment and believe that every small action we take can make a big difference for our planet. That's why I decided to start my own wax melt business that reflects my values and vision.

Wax melts are a great alternative to candles, as they release a lovely fragrance without producing any soot or smoke. They are also more economical, as you can reuse the same wax melt several times until the scent fades. However, not all wax melts are created equal. Some wax melts are made from paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum and can release harmful chemicals into the air. Some wax melts are also tested on animals or contain animal-derived ingredients, which goes against my ethical principles.
That's why I decided to source all the ingredients for my wax melts from UK companies that share my commitment to sustainability and animal welfare. I use only soy wax, which is made from soybeans and is biodegradable and renewable. Soy wax also burns cleaner and longer than paraffin wax, and has a better scent throw. Soy wax is also vegan friendly, as it does not contain any animal products or by-products.

The increasing environmental impact of imports

The UK is one of the world's largest economies and consumers of goods and services. However, not all of these goods and services are produced within the UK's borders. Many of them are imported from other countries, which means that the UK is also responsible for some of the carbon emissions that occur along the supply chains of these products.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK's carbon footprint, which measures the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with UK consumption, was 30% lower in 2019 than in 2004, when it peaked at 1,111 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). However, this reduction was mainly driven by a decrease in emissions from domestic production and direct household activities, such as heating and driving. The emissions related to imports, on the other hand, have increased by 8% since 1996, reaching 358 million tonnes of CO2e in 2017, the latest year for which data is available.

By sourcing my wax melt ingredients from UK companies, many of whom are small, female owned, businesses, I can ensure that we leave as little impact on the environment as possible as they do not need to be flown thousands of miles and then distributed across the country. This helps reduce the carbon footprint of our products, and means our customers can be assured they are doing their bit for the environment too.

Not only that, but I am proud to support small UK businesses. The wax melt community in the UK is full of wonderful, creative people who are working hard to ensure we have the highest quality ingredients right here in this country. By ordering from small, UK based wax melt businesses, I am not only doing good for the environment, but supporting others in this fantastic community as well.

Environmentally friendly packaging

Another important aspect of my wax melt business is the packaging. I wanted to make sure that my packaging is fully recyclable and compostable, so I use only cardboard boxes, paper labels, and biodegradable cellophane bags. I also avoid using any plastic or metal in my packaging, as these materials can take a long time to decompose and can pollute the environment. I also encourage my customers to reuse or recycle their packaging after they enjoy their wax melts.

By sourcing ingredients from UK companies, using soy wax, being vegan friendly, and using fully recyclable packaging, I believe that I am doing my part to protect the environment and reduce my carbon footprint. I hope that you will join me in this mission and support my wax melt business. You can find more information about my products and order them online in our store. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!
